Pathetic Fallacy will be taking a much-needed break for a few days, as D. and I leave for America’s Vacationland (Maine) at Sunset Lodge with the Providence crowd (plus fellow Somervillians Ted and Teresa).
Most of this same crowd takes at least one group vacation a year, alternating Vermont locales, the Poconos, and Maine. I’ve only gone with them once before, to Lake Rescue, Vermont, shortly after Dave told me he wanted to be justfriends. I was kind of in agony, since he was there too, and I felt like the sole SO-less soul (not to mention extremely sorry for myself). What I remember most was a lot of drinking — a LOT of drinking, some fun games like Bazooka Joe Theatre and Bite the Bag and The Human Knot, a lot of strange sexual tension and jealousy (that whole Providence crowd, most of whom have know each other since high school or college, are an incestuous bunch), and sleeping on a couple of cushions dragged into the kitchen, since I’d been forced to bunk with a squirmily amorous couple (since broken up). I’m pretty sure that this time will be more fun — going with D. and having our own room will be a major plus, and Ted and Teresa will be there, which should break up some of the clique-ishness.
It will be wonderful to get out of town and away from the DNC paranoia for the next few days. (Not too pleased to be coming back midweek, though. Poor planning on my part, is all I can say.) I’ve got a few unread books and some knitting projects to bring up. And our bimonthly delivery of organic produce arrived today, so we’ll bring up some fresh fruit and veggies to kick things off. I’m getting me some lobster soon, though.
I hope the cat is okay by himself. I always feel guilty leaving him alone. Lucky for us, he’s not the spiteful or grudge-holding sort.
Less typing, more packing.
Have a fabulous time, Aimeroonie! You’re packing much more appropriately this time than last, and it’s sure to be a gorgeous getaway.
Thank you, sweetie! I will miss the shadowier sides of the online experience these next few days, though. (Why oh why didn’t I just go ahead and get a laptop instead of this cumbersome thing?)
