Sue wants to know how you can see other people’s iTunes. I think you should back off on Yes. Oh, and I’m sure your mom loves you & had a great time.

I’m not sure about the mechanics behind it, but when I click “Allow sharing” in my preferences, I can see the song libraries of people who’ve also selected that option — though only those who work on the same floor as I do. I think I need to see if I can get transferred to a cooler floor.
Sorry about the Yes. I think Brett’s love of prog scarred me deeply!

Ah, that’s all it takes. I dragged Sue to see Yes a couple years ago. She was bored, but not traumatized, and she did admire the snakeskin trench coat Rick Wakeman wore. (I’m actually watching a video right now in which he is wearing that same coat. Working from home rules!)

Some more on the mechanics: when you have sharing turned on, you can see the shared iTunes of anyone who’s on the same IP subnet as you. So… if your computer’s IP address is 1.1.1.24, you an see anybody who has an IP address that starts with 1.1.1. The way the work network is setup is that each floor gets its own subnet.
I think there are some kind of hacks to share across subnets, but I’ve never been motivated to find it. It’s just easier to move to a cooler floor.
Normally you can only stream other peoples’ libraries, but there’s a bit of freeware called myTunes which lets you actually download the files.

Ah, this is all very good information, Ezra — thank you. I doubt that those who control my livelihood will sanction a move (permanently) to a cooler floor anytime soon, but there’s always hope.
