Decay! Decay! Decay!

miserrryyyyy!Looks like the Strindberg and Helium folks like the knitted Helium I made for Ezra. I drove poor Doug crazy while I was making it, because I kept snickering, obssessing over finding the right size googly eyes, etc.

Helium is basically Jess Hutchinson’s Spherey pattern, only instead of arms and legs I grafted on little flippers and a little balloon-tie nubbin of my own devising. I’m kind of tempted to make another one.

for the record, the only thing that ‘drove me crazy’ was that i knew Helium was only going to flit briefly through our lives with all the capriciousness one might expect of a ball of noble gas.

    congrats on the shout-out!

I just saw Helium a few hours ago. My friend? He is wonderful. I am not worthy.

Any chance you might have a link to whatever pattern you used, or some tips for me? My friend and I love S&H, and I would so like to knit her a Helium for Christmas!

Jordan, I’m sorry that I don’t have an actual pattern for Helium, but if you can score or borrow a copy of Jess Hutchinson’s pattern booklet (sadly, no longer in print, but maybe there are copies on eBay?), the Spherey pattern is the basis. I added a little stockinette with a couple of decreases on the sides which, when its ends were sewn together and it was grafted to the bottom of Spherey, made the balloon knot. The flippery arms were similarly constructed — like triangles folded in half and sewn together.
