Hey, question for the vets: do we ever find out what happened to his marriage?

Not so far. I bet they're saving that for later this season. Or for Season 3.

But you’re somewhat right about Jack, which I think is bolstered by the fact he was originally supposed to be killed in the pilot.

Yeah, I was amused to find that out--even the creators of the show found this guy a little too good to be true.

But there is definitely such thing as a Locke, a Hurley, a Charlie, a Claire, a Sun, etc.

I would quibble with that, especially re: Locke. He seems like a really invented character to me - the Man of Faith created to be a foil to Jack's Man of Science. His actions seems a bit contrived at times. (Although I do like the character and think he's necessary.)

Kate, on the other hand, is hot.

Neither Claire nor Kate has anything on Our Paula. Rrroowwwr!

Wow, blushes and back atcha!

I am also beginning to think that pretty people must be automaticaly suspect

Ah, except that I just said I like Claire, and think she is more conventionally attractive than Kate. And the Korean guy is one of my favorite characters because he is so complex--and the actor who plays him is h-o-t-t. And I've also gone on record (not here, but in present company) that I think Naveen Andrews is the smokin'-est guy on TV.

What irks me about Kate and Jack is that they are such...TV characters. There is no such thing as a Kate in real life--the sturdy, beautiful outlaw with a heart of gold. But there is definitely such thing as a Locke, a Hurley, a Charlie, a Claire, a Sun, etc.

Shepard Christ-like? I guess it could be argued Christ had a major problem with anger and control issues, and comes off as a sanctimonious jerk when he's either feeling his oats or not getting his way. To me, the writers have done a great job of avoiding Jack-as-noble-hero or even Jack-as-noble-flawed-hero plotting. And I think everyone but Flasshe is giving extremely short shrift to Evangeline Lily, to such an extent that I am wondering if we are watching the same show. I think she does a great job with the part - c'mon, she has at least three facial expressions! Seriously, I think the character is interesting and that Evangeline rocks the role, though feel free to suspect that my true reason for liking her is the same as Flasshe's stated one. :-) I am also beginning to think that pretty people must be automaticaly suspect, since the criticisms seem to light on the two most conventionally attractive cast members. To me, the show seems far more cloying when it plays the "loveable underdog!" cards of Hurley and Charlie.

I think she's kinda funny-looking, but the Australian girl Claire is beautiful.
