And fitting into it can be highly destructive to actually making good shows (I’m thinking about Twin Peaks and Moonlighting in particular, who would have been much better off left to their own pace rather than having the quality suffer from trying to fit into the season system). A positive counterexample is the BBC’s series system, who, for example, make a new Prime Suspect series only when Helen Mirren feels like it.

Sorry - I just can’t bring myself to even gesture in the direction of possibly thinking of acquiring a rat’s ass to give about “America’s Top Model” (whether the phrase refers to the show or the concept) - but yes, the CW (why that name?) is the new child of WB and UPN, neither of which, apparently, could scrounge together enough beauticians from Iowa and waitresses from Florida to mount their own “America’s Next Pointlessly Famous-for-Five-Minutes Phenomenon.”

But my main question is this, spurred on by the “chicken romaine” thing: what is the deal with all this food being called “Tuscan” this or that these days? I haven’t been able to extract a common set of ingredients, preparation, or presentation that designates what the hell “Tuscan” means - or why allasudden whatever it is they supposedly eat over in that part of Italy is all popular. I think I will rename my blog “The Tuscan Dance Society” - oh, and have a model contest! Readers, submit photos and bios today!
