Good: This week was our annual company summer outing, a 3-hour lunch and cruise around Boston Harbor. It was a beautiful day and a good time with people I enjoy. My team came in third place in the trivia competition, and the scratch ticket I won yielded $4.
Bad: I lost my wallet somewhere between the boat and my office. Repeated phone calls to the cruise company were useless, so last night I canceled my credit and debit cards, ordered a replacement driver’s license, and put a fraud alert on my credit report.
Good: The American Express customer service rep was really nice, and she promised to overnight a new card to me.
Bad: As of 5:00 p.m., the package hasn’t arrived.
Also bad: Everything else (Citibank, debit card, license) takes seven to ten days.
Good: Mass RMV is pretty great — you can request a replacement license online. It’s $20,\ but seemed like a small price to pay to avoid a visit to the RMV itself.
Good: My wallet was found and dropped off at the M.I.T. Coop, where an employee notified my bank, who then called me at work.
Good: On the way to the Coop to pick up my wallet, I chased down a preschooler’s drawing that the sirocco-like wind had ripped from her hand, and her mother said, “That was very kind of you.”
Fantastic: Everything, even the cash, was intact. No lost Harvard Bookstore Frequent Shopper card! No need to request new medical and dental insurance cards! Best of all, I still have the “Damn, you’re awesome” card and am reunited with the incredibly adorable wallet itself, both from my wonderful boyfriend.

Oh, poo! What aggravation. Thank goodness it was found, full; I have always admired that wallet. Your mistake, you realize, was in going back to the office.
We made it from the boat to State College in record time (before midnight!). We’re now at the hotel, just about to get ready to go to the wedding.

Glad that on balance things turned out well! The credit/debit card wait is annoying…one reason I’m trying to carry as few of those as possible (on me, and just period).

Thanks, friends!
Ezra: I only went back to wait for Tomoko and Kiyo to meet Kevin and me for dinner. No actual work was performed!
And happy wedding day to Miss Abby!
