Good insulation makes good neighbors

I think one or both of the grad student neighbors we had last year have moved out and been replaced by other grad students. Mostly I notice that they don’t play music as loudly as their predecessors, much to my delight. They do seem to be big gamers, though. I can hear pow-pow muffled explosions, some moderately boring bass lines, and some more blowy-uppy noises most nights — but thankfully, it’s at a muffled and nonintrusive volume. The inhabitant of the bedroom above ours also seems to be less inclined to drag his wooden furniture across the floor for hours on end. And oddly enough, the wildebeest phenomenon — the thundering, galloping descent and ascent in the stairwell between the third and second and first floors — has all but vanished.

Oh I am accused of being a Wildebeest by my husband who says that I ‘lumber’ down the stairs. Gee, thanks!

I’m sure you’re not prone to galloping gallumphing, as our former neighbors did! “Lumber” to me connotes more a slow and dignified approach.
